This page contains resources that relate to the History A Level curricula in the UK. These can be employed in the classroom, or at home to aid revision. They provide various case studies to help explore topics covered on the AQA, OCR Edexcel, SQA, and WJEC curricula in more depth.

The Civil War

The Civil War was a period of conflict in the United States, which lasted from the 12th of April 1861 to the 9th of April 1865. The war was fought between the Union in the North and the Confederacy in the South.

The Jazz Age

The Jazz Age was a period of social and cultural transformation in the United States, which loosely took place across the 1920s and 1930s. Jazz music and dance symbolised the transforming ideals of the time.

The Civil Rights Movement

The Civil Rights Movement marked an era of struggle for rights for African Americans in the United States. Although the precise dates are the subject of historical debate, the ‘classical’ period of the Movement took place across the 1950s and 1960s.

History Skills

There are many different approaches that you can take to think about history, and techniques that you can use to analyse primary sources. These resources explore a few of these.

These resources were created as part of the Bridging the Resource Gap project, which was funded by the British Association of American Studies and the US Embassy.
