In celebration of the centenary of Fitzgerald’s masterwork The Great Gatsby and Faulkner’s early writing years, the Faulkner Studies in the UK Research Network is excited to announce the call for papers for our next colloquium.
The Scottish Association for the Study of America (SASA) is thrilled to announce that this year’s Marcella LeBeau Essay Prize is now open for submissions. The Marcella LeBeau Essay Prize is awarded to the best essay by an undergraduate student at a Scottish University on a topic relating to women, gender, or minority studies within the Americas. SASA recognises a broad definition of the Americas and includes anything situated within North, South or Latin America, at any point in history.
CFP for 'Aesthetic Experience, Reading Practices and Literary Studies: Functions and Uses of Literature' seminar for the next American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA) annual meeting (Virtual, May 29 – June 1, 2025). The seminar asks what kinds of research could help shed some light on the questions about function and uses of literature that have been asked in literary studies, and welcomes papers from both literary and anthropological perspectives. Organized by Tijana Przulj (University of Bergen). Deadline: October 14, 2024.
The Heidelberg Center for American Studies (HCA) invites applications for its annual Spring Academy on American Culture, Economics, Geography, History, Literature, Politics, and Religion to be held from March 24-28, 2025.
CFP for 'Breath Poetics' panel for the next American Comparative Literature Association (ACLA) annual meeting (Virtual, May 29 – June 1, 2025). We seek papers that present alternative trajectories to the canonical narrative of postwar breath poetics, shifting theoretical ground by engaging critically with the formal, thematic, and cultural valences of breath and breathlessness. Organised by Mae Losasso (University of Warwick) and Lucy Alford (Wake Forest University). Deadline: October 14, 2024.
BAAS invites scholars in any field of American Studies to apply for grants of up to two years in duration. Grants may be requested for up to a maximum of £2000 for a range of American Studies academic activities. More information: https://baas.ac.uk/funding/baas-development-fund/
