We are very pleased to announce the 2027 International Summer Institute which is to be held at the University of Alberta Edmonton campus in mid-June 2027, in collaboration with the University of Leicester and the University of the West Indies. This is the seventh occasion we are offering a week-long intensive programme with an emphasis on both academic and professional development. It is aimed at postgraduate research candidates and early career researchers based in the UK, the Caribbean, Canada – and beyond – with an interest in global studies and a background in any discipline across the arts, humanities and social sciences, and we encourage applicants with a diverse range of interests.

This is a great opportunity to visit the University of Alberta at a fascinating time in North American history – and the history of the Americas. The dates are 14 to 19 June 2027 and the theme is Indigeneities, Marronage and (Un)belonging. The programme will include seminars, lectures, workshops and fieldtrips that relate to this overarching theme and a series of subthemes outlined on the webpage https://le.ac.uk/cssah/uwi-summer-school. There will also be an opportunity to present a paper on your own research at the Researcher Conference, which will be scheduled on one of the days during the Summer Institute.
