    Abolitionists in Leeds — Black History Month Event

    This hybrid event inaugurates Black History Month at the University of Leeds. It commemorates C19th abolitionists in Leeds and their intersectional labour. We will be unveiling a blue plaque to be placed on a student hall of residence that was once the home of Quaker abolitionists Mary and Wilson Armistead. It commemorates their work and that of African American abolitionists including Henry "Box" Brown, William Wells Brown, Ellen and Willliam Craft, Frederick Douglass, Sarah Parker Remond and Moses Roper.

    Changing the Script: Women as History Makers

    Please join the School of History on Wednesday 23 October for Kate Dossett's Inaugural Lecture as Professor of American History at the University. This is a free public event at the University of Leeds which will be livestreamed. It will be followed by a buffet and drinks reception for in person attendees.

    In celebration of the centenary of Fitzgerald’s masterwork The Great Gatsby and Faulkner’s early writing years, the Faulkner Studies in the UK Research Network is excited to announce the call for papers for our next colloquium.

    Marcella LeBeau Undergraduate Essay Prize

    The Scottish Association for the Study of America (SASA) is thrilled to announce that this year’s Marcella LeBeau Essay Prize is now open for submissions. The Marcella LeBeau Essay Prize is awarded to the best essay by an undergraduate student at a Scottish University on a topic relating to women, gender, or minority studies within the Americas. SASA recognises a broad definition of the Americas and includes anything situated within North, South or Latin America, at any point in history.
