BAAS is pleased to announce that our former Chair, Professor Simon Newman (Glasgow / Wisconsin), has been named an Honorary Fellow in recognition of his long service to the British American Studies community. He was nominated by the British Group of Early American Historians and the European Early American Studies Association. Professor Newman is also the co-winner of the 2023 Frederick Douglass Book Prize for “Freedom Seekers: Escaping from Slavery in Restoration London” (University of London Press). Professor Newman was awarded the prize along with R. Isabela Morales for “Happy Dreams of Liberty: An American Family in Slavery and Freedom” (Oxford University Press).
