Graphic medicine (GM) has become an important methodological resource in medical/health humanities (MHH), offering innovative ways to research, teach and communicate experiences of health, disability and care. While existing scholarship has examined GM as a form of illness representation, this seminar foregrounds comics-based practices as methods of inquiry, collaboration and knowledge production. By approaching GM as method, this online seminar explores how visual storytelling expands theoretical and practical possibilities in MHH. It also considers linguistic, cultural, historical and geopolitical differences shaping GM’s global growth, while highlighting how comparative approaches can expand its analytical possibilities. Discussions will focus on sharing ideas and approaches for using GM to create social impact.
