The American Dream/American Nightmare Conference which will take place this year
online on Thursday 3rd July and
in-person at the Little Titchfield Street campus of the University of Westminster on Friday 4th July. The conference is collaboratively hosted by the
New Voices in Postcolonial Studies Network and the
University of Westminster and is concerned with the fantastical and the horrific in the American context, exploring the best and the worst of life and experiences in North America/Turtle Island across various fields.
The BAAS Development Fund and the University of Westminster’s School of Humanities Research Committee are kindly funding some travel subsidies for attendees wishing to join the conference on 4th July. The deadline to apply for a travel subsidy is
Sunday 1st June. Applications can be made through this online
form. It is important for applicants to note that subsidies will be awarded in arrears based on expenditure evidence. The claim for a reimbursement must be made by
July 7th 2025, and
no later than 90-days from the original expenditure date.

The conference team is also pleased to share that a special issue will be published with the European Journal of American Culture in Autumn 2026 based on the conference theme. All presenters and attendees will be invited to submit an expression of interest to have their work featured in this edition. Both traditional articles and film/book/art reviews are welcome, and the deadline for (max) 250-word abstracts is July 31st, 2025. Abstracts should be sent to americandreamamericannightmare@gmail.com with the subject line ‘EJAC’.
