UK Jewish Film invites you to our screening of Dust Bowls and Jewish Souls: Another Side of Woody Guthrie on Monday, November 9th 2026 at 6.15pm at Everyman Belsize Park as part of the 30th anniversary edition of the UK Jewish Film Festival.
A fascinating exploration of the Jewish influences that helped shape the music of Woody Guthrie, the influential American folk singer who inspired Bob Dylan, amongst so many others. Guthrie’s second wife, Marjorie Greenblatt, was a Jewish professional dancer, whilst her mother, Aliza, was a well-known Yiddish poet. Guthrie and Aliza developed a close bond through their artistic spirits and shared socialist politics. Guthrie went on to write a number of songs influenced by his interest in Jewish culture. Features original interviews with Guthrie and Marjorie’s children, Arlo and Nora, who provide delightful personal insights and anecdotes, to enhance the story.
Join us after the film for a Q+A with Will Kaufman, the world’s foremost expert on the life and work of Woody Guthrie. Alongside his work on Guthrie, Will holds the position of Professor of American Literature and Culture at the University of Central Lancashire in England.
