To mark the centenary of ‘the Scottish Beat’, Alexander Trocchi’s birth, Scottish Literature and the Andrew Hook Centre for American Studies at the University of Glasgow will be staging a two-day symposium on 12–13 June, 2025. The event will commence on the evening of the 12th with a Glasgow Film Theatre screening of David Mackenzie’s adaptation of Young Adam (2003), including an introductory talk and concluding Q&A. The following day will include panels and discussions, an exhibition space featuring books, sculptures and other Trocchi memorabilia, and a closing plenary. We also hope to display some or all of the Edwin Morgan Papers file on Trocchi and other papers from his time as a student at the University.
We welcome proposals for talks of 15-20 minutes on any aspect of Trocchi’s life and works. Please submit these to chris.gair@glasgow.ac.uk including the word ‘Trocchi’ in the heading. To receive updates on the symposium, please email the same address and request being added to the mailing list.
