BrANCH Peter J. Parish Dissertation Prize

opportunities

BrANCH are pleased to announce our annual student dissertation prizes for the best pieces of work on American nineteenth century history. The work should offer some originality, either in its research or approach or argument, relating to the history of the United States between roughly 1789 and 1917.

Two prizes will be awarded – an undergraduate and a taught postgraduate – normally with a value of £200. The winning dissertations will also have the opportunity to work with the editors of American Nineteenth Century History (ANCH) to develop their work into an article should they wish. Winning entries will be published on the BrANCH website and promoted through the BrANCH mailing list and social media channels.

Candidates should email an electronic copy of their dissertation to BrANCH Secretary Liz Barnes (e.barnes@reading.ac.uk), alongside a letter from an institutional representative, tutor, teacher or supervisor attesting that the candidate was registered for an UG or PGT degree. Dissertations will normally be of c.10,000 words for the UG prize and c. 15,000 for the PGT prize, though we can be flexible to allow for institutional differences.

Deadline: November 1, 2024
