Eccles Institute Digital Salon - British Association for American Studies

Eccles Institute Digital Salon

At the third Eccles Digital Salon on Tuesday 4 June, 16:30 – 17:30, Lorenzo Costaguta, Lecturer in History at the University of Bristol and a former Eccles Fellow, will discuss his monograph Workers of All Colors Unite: Race and the Origins of American Socialism (Illinois University Press, 2023). As a historian of race and class with a specialism in the history of U.S. and European socialist movements, Costaguta uses a multi-lingual archival basis to offer the first history of socialism and race in the United States in the second half of the nineteenth century. The book adopts a transnational approach, exploring the role of European immigrants (in particular from Germany) in shaping American socialist racial thought. The event is free and online; please register here.
