The Southern Historical Association proudly announces two upcoming online events that may be of particular interest to scholars of the American South based outside the United States:

Coffee, Tea, & Confab—Thursday, March 21, 2024, 16.00

The Southern Historical Association’s Membership Committee and Graduate Council are proud to announce an early-career networking event on Thursday, March 21 at 16.00 GMT. Undergrad and grad students, as well as early career historians, are all welcome! This will be a great opportunity to network, ask questions, seek advice, and build community for all those interested in Southern Studies and the history of the American South. Classic Texts—Friday, March 29, 2024, 18.00

The first session of the SHA’s ‘Classic Texts’ series for Spring 2024 will explore C. Vann Woodward’s Origins of the New South, 1877-1913. We have three exceptional scholars on the panel: Vernon Burton, Sarah Gardner, and Natalie J. Ring. A panel of experts will discuss the content, context, and meaning of Woodward’s text, both at the time of its publication and in our own time, and then open discussions up to the audience to further explore this canonical work together. Robert Greene will serve as moderator. Join us on Friday, March 29 at 17.00 GMT for an engaging discussion of this seminal work! Register for the event at https://bit.ly/shaclassic24.
