The Richard D. Gooder Essay Prize for PhD students

  1. Word Limit: 7,500 words, including notes. Entrants should follow our style guidelines.
  2. The competition is open to anyone currently registered for a doctoral degree (PhD or D.Phil), or who has been awarded one within the last year.
  3. Essays must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and should not to be submitted to any other journal until the outcome of the competition is known. All published essays will be subject to the same copyright terms as everything else published in The Cambridge Quarterly.
  4. Competition essays should be submitted to the journal in the normal manner via the online submission system. Please ensure that you select ‘Richard D. Gooder Essay Prize’ when you submit and that you also upload a CQ Prize Essay entry form.
  5. The Prize will be judged by the Editorial Board of The Cambridge Quarterly. The process of selection will, accordingly, fulfil the requirements of peer review. The judges reserve the right to recommend revisions to the prize-winning essay prior to publication.
  6. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be considered. The judges reserve the right to award no Prize.
