Join us for the 52nd annual conference of the American Politics Group at the University of East Anglia, from January 7th to 9th, 2026, where our keynote speaker will be Professor Angelia Wilson, whose research on the intersection of Christianity, conservatism, and politics will no doubt prove to be a timely topic for our conference.

The APG annual conference is a lively and convivial event that welcomes everyone with an interest in American domestic and international politics, political history, government, and society.

Today, the American political system, as we know it, appears under threat, not for the first time. We are witnessing a struggle between those who believe in the unitary presidency and those who push for greater congressional oversight of executive action. It feels as though the nation is in a moment of significance, and the world is watching with bated breath.

As we continue to march onwards during our second half-century as the major professional organisation for researchers and lecturers in the UK, we invite proposals for conference papers on any aspect of US politics. Papers examining contemporary U.S. political institutions or processes, elections, domestic policy, U.S. foreign policy, or U.S. political history are all welcome.

Proposals should be around 150 words for single papers and 300 words for panels. Please note that proposals for all-male panels should be avoided.

Have a working draft?

  • Working on a paper and looking for feedback from a friendly audience with diverse viewpoints and disciplinary backgrounds? The APG’s annual conference is the event for you!

The American Politics Group (APG) of the Political Studies Association (PSA) is the leading UK organisation associated with the teaching and research of American politics, from secondary school level to post-doctorate scholarship. The group has served as a convening point for political scientists and political historians for over 50 years, drawing its membership from not only the UK but also from Europe, the US, and beyond. The Political Studies Association awarded us Specialist Group of the Year for 2023-24 for our outreach and support of scholarship on US politics. We have recently worked in close collaboration with the US Embassy in London, the Political Studies Association, and the Financial Times.

We have a strong and active postgraduate community. Previous conferences have had a strong postgraduate presence, and we especially encourage early-career scholars to present their work. Scholars at the start of their careers and professors often collaborate on APG panels, contributing to a research community that has helped foster professional development in research, publication, and teaching careers.
