GREEN BAAS, the sustainability and environmental network of the British Association of American Studies, is pleased and excited to share with BAAS members something that has been brewing for quite a long time. Our “Report on Environmental pedagogies in UK American studies”, prepared by Sam Hawksford Smith, surveys the current landscape of teaching about the US environment in UK higher education. It highlights strategies and ideas to teach about the climate crisis and environmental issues more broadly developed by educators working in various disciplinary contexts. 

The report includes practical, actionable tips presented in three main categories, “Place and Experience, “Sources and Materiality” and “Activism and Engagement”, with the hope that it will encourage more scholars to engage with the environment in their teaching, whether or not they work on the topic in their own research.
