Green BAAS Audit on Environmental Teaching in British American Studies

baas-news

Green BAAS – the association’s environmental and sustainability network – was founded in 2019 to respond to concerns about climate breakdown and the role of the United States in it, and to consider and direct the changes that BAAS can make to contribute to collective global climate action. One of the network’s guiding principles is to develop environmental teaching in British American Studies, and its co-leads have organised several pedagogic roundtables.

Using these discussions as a stepping stone, the project aims to develop a fuller picture of the current context and will result in a report highlighting best practices and opportunities for development. It will be shared widely within the American Studies community.

All educators based in the UK and teaching modules that engage with environmental issues in relation to the United States are welcome to participate, regardless of the discipline and programme in which the material is taught. In other words, we’re interested in what’s happening in and beyond American Studies programmes. To participate, follow the survey questions and record your responses. You will be asked if you’d be willing to share examples of ongoing practice and for your perspectives on bringing environmental education to the University classroom.

We also plan to organise a series of in-depth remote interviews with respondents. If you would like further information and/or decide you would like to arrange a session, please reply via email to: Sam Hawksford White (s.hawksford-white-2021@hull.ac.uk).

We invite responses until 30 July 2025. Click here to access the survey.
