    Ellen Craft Essay Prize

    The Scottish Association for the Study of America (SASA) is thrilled to announce this year’s Ellen Craft Essay Prize is now open for submissions. The Ellen Craft Essay Prize is intended to help to promote, encourage and share the study of women, gender, and minority topics in American Studies at postgraduate and early career levels.

    American Nineteenth Century History – Journal – call for submissions

    American Nineteenth Century History (ANCH) is a peer-reviewed, transatlantic journal devoted to American history during the long nineteenth century. We welcome research articles on themes and topics relating to America during the nineteenth century, including (but not limited to): slavery, race, and ethnicity, the Civil War and Reconstruction, political and military history, history of ideas, gender, and more. In addition to research articles, special editions, historiographical pieces, reassessments of historical controversies, and reappraisals of prominent events or individuals are welcome.

    Understanding American Politics, Third Edition by Stephen Brooks, Donald E. Abelson and Melissa Haussman

    University of Toronto Press Understanding American Politics provides a unique introduction to the contemporary political landscape of the United States. Placing the study of American politics within a broader context of other western democracies, this textbook reinforces the idea that in order to understand the American system, students need to begin by understanding their own democracy. This balanced, comparative perspective is integrated throughout to better explain and highlight the ways in which American politics and government work in relation to other democracies.

    In Memoriam: Trevor Burnard

    BAAS is sorry to inform its members that Professor Trevor Burnard (Director of the Wilberforce Institute at the University of Hull) has died from cancer at the age of 64.

    Summer 2024 BAAS Newsletter

    The latest edition of the BAAS Schools Newsletter is now available.
