Whilst war and conflict have often been analysed by focusing on decisionmakers, this conference will seek a “bottom-up” approach to the way war has been viewed. This will be achieved by analysing the pro- or anti-war voices of “regular” people during wartime. The parameters of this conference are expansive and hope to illuminate the voices of many who have been silenced by this dedication to “top-down” history. Such voices could originate from any class, gender, or race, and the rationale for their position could derive from a myriad of impetuses. In this way, we will gain a diverse insight into the way “regular” people inserted their voices into situations in which they had had little to no control.
This conference will coincide with an exhibition of the same name in The Hive, (Sawmill Walk, The Butts, Worcester, WR1 3PD) 3-13 November 2023.
We are delighted to announce that this conference/exhibition is now supported by the BAAS Development Fund. Two bursaries are available for PGR/ECA speakers. Don’t delay, submit your abstract today! Deadline for abstracts 31 May 2023.
